Expectations

Every student I teach is different and so the details of lesson structure and practice tend to change with each student’s situation. This will vary based on age, previous experience, and other commitments, and I like to be open and flexible with creating a program that works best for each individual student. Communication is key and I am happy to discuss these expectations with students and adjust them as their lives change.

At the same time there are some expectations which are conducive to a happy and fruitful learning experience, and these should be met consistently by both student and teacher.

From a student, I expect a willingness to learn and consistent practice based on the schedule we set up that works best for their situation. I also expect good treatment and organization of any materials I provide (i.e. a binder for lesson materials) and to have all necessary materials ready at the beginning of a lesson so we can get started right away.

I also strongly believe in a fun and respectful learning environment that works both ways.  From me a student can expect a positive attitude, good instruction based on the student's needs, support for their learning journey, and a fun and safe atmosphere that develops their love of music.

Tuition

Tuition fees are paid on a monthly basis and cover the following:

·       Time spent preparing for the lessons (preparing new songs, finding appropriate material, planning individual lessons and overall learning path)

·       Creating and printing lesson materials (i.e. handouts, song tabs/chord sheets)

·       Bookkeeping and other administrative work

·       The lessons themselves

Tuition fees are to be paid during the last lesson of the previous month and can be paid through cash, cheque, or e-transfer. A single grace-period is provided per year for a late payment, after which there will be a $15 fee added to late payments.

All E-transfers can be sent to: blackrivermusicstudio@gmail.com

Cancellation Policy

24 hours notice is required for any cancellations except in the case of emergencies. If a cancellation is made within 24 hours of a lesson that lesson is forfeit. If a lesson is cancelled before the cutoff you will receive a lesson credit, and the lesson can be rescheduled to be made up at a different time.

If I cancel a lesson for any reason, I will give a lesson credit to make up the lesson at a later date, or if I cancel a lesson within 24 hours, the lesson will be fully refunded.
